The cheapest GLP-1 depends on one question a headline price skips: are you looking at the starting dose or the dose you will stay on? Brand pills look cheap in month one, then climb as the dose goes up.

Below are both prices for every option, checked on the manufacturers' own pages in October 2026.

What is the cheapest GLP-1 without insurance right now?

These are the lowest monthly prices you can pay today, at the starting dose:

OptionStarting price / monthFDA-approved?
Compounded semaglutideFrom $79No
Wegovy pill 1.5 mg$149Yes
Foundayo 0.8 mg$149Yes
Wegovy pen 0.25 mg$199 (first 2 fills)Yes
Zepbound 2.5 mg$299Yes

The Wegovy pill is semaglutide, Foundayo is orforglipron and Zepbound is tirzepatide. The compounded figure is the lowest regular price a program we track states.

Sources: Novo Nordisk and Lilly's self-pay pages123. TrumpRx lists the same Wegovy and Zepbound prices4.

The starting dose is meant to get your body used to the drug, not to be your long-term dose. So the next table matters more.

What does each one cost once you reach a working dose?

OptionMaintenance dosePrice / month
Compounded semaglutideVaries$199 (median)
Wegovy pill25 mg$299
Foundayo14.5 or 17.2 mg$299
Wegovy pen2.4 mg$349
Wegovy HD7.2 mg$399
Zepbound7.5 to 15 mg$449

The catches:

  • Foundayo is $299 at its top doses only if you refill within 45 days; otherwise it is $3492.
  • Zepbound is $449 only if you refill within 45 days; otherwise $499 at 7.5 mg and $699 at 10 to 15 mg3.
  • Compounded semaglutide is not FDA-approved.

Seen this way, the two brand pills tie at $299 at their top doses, and the Wegovy pen is $50 more. Novo also offers a 12-month Wegovy subscription at $249 a month through some telehealth programs; the Wegovy self-pay price guide has the terms. Zepbound costs the most, and its price depends on refilling on time.

Which brand pill is cheaper: the Wegovy pill or Foundayo?

They start and finish at the same price. The difference is in the middle steps and the fine print:

  • Foundayo has temporary prices through December 31, 2026: $149 for 2.5 mg and $199 for 5.5 mg, instead of the regular $199 and $2992.
  • The Wegovy pill is $199 at 4 mg and $299 from 9 mg up1.
  • Foundayo can be taken any time, without food or water rules, according to Lilly5. The Wegovy pill has to be taken on an empty stomach, which some people find hard to stick with.

They are different drugs. The Wegovy pill is semaglutide, the same molecule as Ozempic and Wegovy shots. Foundayo is orforglipron, a newer non-peptide GLP-15. To see what each costs by dose, read the Wegovy pill price guide.

What is the cheapest compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide?

Of the 83 telehealth programs we track, 39 compounded semaglutide programs state a regular monthly price. Their median is $199, the middle half fall between $149 and $249, and 26 charge $199 or less.

Every one of them is on the cheapest semaglutide board, in price order. 53 programs we track also mention compounded tirzepatide; those are collected on the tirzepatide board.

Is the Ozempic pill a cheaper option?

It costs the same as the Wegovy pill at its first steps: $149 at 1.5 mg, $199 at 4 mg and $299 at 9 mg7. But the Ozempic pill, the former Rybelsus, is approved only for type 2 diabetes, and its top dose is far below the 25 mg Wegovy pill. If you are buying a pill for weight loss, the Wegovy pill or Foundayo is the one approved for it.

Can a savings card beat all of these prices?

Yes, if your insurance covers the drug. Novo's card can bring Wegovy to as little as $25 a month, up to $100 off per month1. Lilly's Foundayo card works the same way, as low as $25 with commercial coverage2.

The cards don't help if your plan excludes weight-loss drugs, and government plans can't use them. Call your plan first; it takes ten minutes and can save you thousands.

What does a "from $X" price usually leave out?

A headline price is often not what you pay in month four. Before you sign up anywhere, ask about these:

  1. Intro pricing. A cheap first month can reset to a higher regular rate.
  2. Prepaid plans. The lowest number is often a 6- or 12-month plan paid up front.
  3. Memberships. Some programs bill the medicine and a monthly membership separately.
  4. 28-day billing. Billing every four weeks means 13 charges a year, not 12.
  5. Dose tiers. Some prices rise as your dose goes up; others stay flat.

The brand prices have their own fine print too: the Wegovy intro is two fills only, and Zepbound and Foundayo's top-dose prices depend on refilling within 45 days23.

Is the cheapest option safe?

Brand pills and pens are FDA-approved. Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are not, and the FDA says it does not review them for safety, effectiveness or quality before they are sold6. As of May 31, 2026, the FDA had received 990 adverse-event reports for compounded semaglutide and more than 730 for compounded tirzepatide6.

That doesn't make every compounder unsafe. It means you should ask which pharmacy makes your medicine and how the dose is measured, because vials are drawn in units, not milligrams. The provenance page shows which programs name their pharmacy, and our compounded semaglutide legal status guide explains where compounding stands now.

Where do you get a prescription for the cheapest option?

Every option here needs one. Your own doctor can write it, or an online program can. Brand pills and pens can be sent to the manufacturer's pharmacy or picked up locally; compounded medicine comes from the program's pharmacy.

Our board of online semaglutide programs shows which programs prescribe brand medicine and which sell compounded, and what each charges for the visit itself. A cheap drug with an expensive membership attached isn't cheap.

How do you compare a year, not a month?

Multiply the maintenance price by 12, then add the cheaper starting months. Here is roughly what year one costs at October 2026 prices:

OptionFirst 12 months (approx.)
Compounded semaglutide, median$2,388
Wegovy pill, climbing to 25 mg$3,338
Wegovy pen, 2 intro fills then 2.4 mg$3,888
Zepbound, climbing to 7.5 mg or more$5,188

The brand rows assume today's prices hold, and several offers end December 31, 2026. For every semaglutide form side by side, read what semaglutide costs in every form. To weigh two programs head to head, use the compare tool.

The bottom line

The cheapest FDA-approved GLP-1 without insurance is a brand pill: the Wegovy pill or Foundayo, both $149 to start and $299 at their top doses. Compounded semaglutide costs less, around $199 a month at the median, but it is not FDA-approved. Compare maintenance prices and a full year, and check your insurance first, since a covered fill with a savings card can drop to $25.
