Privacy policy

How Semawise handles data, in plain terms. We keep this light on purpose: we run one analytics tool, and only after you say yes.

What we collect

In short: Anonymized usage data through Google Analytics 4, from your first page view — with a one-tap opt-out.

When you accept, Google Analytics 4 may record which pages you view, an approximate location derived from your IP (which we do not store), your device and browser type, and the site that referred you. We do not ask for your name, and we do not run advertising trackers.

Consent Mode v2

In short: Analytics is on from your first page view, and one tap turns it off.

Semawise serves a US audience and uses Google Consent Mode v2 on an opt-out basis: analytics storage is granted when the page loads, and the banner tells you so rather than asking first. Advertising storage, ad user data and ad personalization stay denied at all times, so nothing here feeds ad targeting.

Cookies and local storage

In short: Your choice lives in your own browser under the cookie-consent key.

We save your decision in your browser's localStorage so we don't ask on every page, which makes the setting per browser and per device. Google sets its own analytics cookies; opting out deletes them.

How we use it

In short: Only to see what's read and what's missing, so we can write better.

Aggregate traffic patterns tell us which explainers are useful and where the gaps are. That is the whole purpose — there is no profiling, scoring, or individual targeting.

Google as a third party

In short: The data you consent to flows to Google, which processes it under its own terms.

Google Analytics is provided by Google LLC, which acts as a separate data processor and handles the data under its own privacy policy. We access only aggregated reports inside the Analytics dashboard.

We never sell your data

In short: No sale, no rental, no sharing for anyone else's marketing.

Semawise does not sell, rent, or trade personal data. The only sharing that happens is the analytics measurement you opt into above.

Your choices and rights

In short: You can opt out in one tap, or ask us to help with access or deletion.

The button below turns analytics off for this browser, immediately and without a reload: Consent Mode goes to denied, GA4 stops identifying the session, and the Google Analytics cookies already here are deleted. Your choice is kept under the cookie-consent entry in localStorage; clearing this site's data returns you to the default. Because we collect anonymized analytics rather than named records, we usually cannot tie data back to you individually; for any access or deletion request, email ask@semawise.com and we'll do what we can.

Children

In short: This site is for adults; we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

Semawise is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, or under 13 in any case. If you believe a child provided data, contact us and we will remove it.

Retention

In short: Analytics data is kept only as long as it's useful, then it ages out.

Aggregated analytics is retained under Google Analytics' standard retention settings and is not stored separately by us. Your local consent flag stays in your browser until you clear it.

Security

In short: The site is served over HTTPS and holds no account logins or payment data.

Semawise is a static, read-only publication with no user accounts, passwords, or checkout. That keeps the attack surface small, though no method of transmission over the internet is ever perfectly secure.

Changes

In short: If this policy changes, the current version always lives on this page.

We may update this policy as the site evolves. Material changes will be reflected here, so the version you see is the one in effect.

Contact

In short: Questions about privacy go straight to our inbox.

Email ask@semawise.com with anything about this policy or your data.
